Steve started his journalism career in 2000 and stated that he had a difficult time trying to get noticed in the newsroom. Starting his career, kicked off by filing papers, answering phones, and trying to get noticed with his hard work. In 2001, he was promoted after covering the Ehime Maru tragedy. He later spent hours after work writing, organizing, and labeling what was on each tape which earned him recognition and respect among his peers.

Steve started serving as the weekend sports guy and in this role, he enclosed everything from the Ewa Beach Little Leaguers’ World Series run to Michelle Wie’s and every UH sport. He worked under his then-boss, Liz Chun where he enclosed UH Football with the June Jones & Coach Mac Shows. He also worked 7-day weeks, taking notes while practicing and conducting interviews for the show. Since he started his journalism career, he has received 3 Emmy Awards, an Edward R. Murrow and Mark Twain award.
