One of his notable stories, “Megacryometeor,” earned him a nomination for an Emmy Award. This story recounted the incident when a large block of ice fell from the sky, crashing through a local resident’s roof and causing significant damage. Esterly followed the family affected by the incident and documented the investigation conducted by the local university to determine the origin of the ice block. Additionally, he was recognized as among the top meteorologists in the Chippewa Valley by readers of a local magazine.
