McDonald is a reporter and anchor working at WDIV in Detroit, Michigan. She has covered news in Detroit and Michigan for 25 years. Prior to joining the WDIV News team, she worked for WTVS Detroit PBS One Detroit as a managing editor and anchor for nearly 11 years. In 2011, she created the station’s weekly flagship politics/news show “MiWeek,” which evolved into “One Detroit” in 2017. Additionally, she helped create and anchor “One Detroit: Arts & Culture,” a second weekly program devoted to the arts.
She appeared multiple times on CNN and the PBS NewsHour reporting on Michigan politics and Detroit’s financial crisis. In addition to that, she anchored special coverage for DPTV including the Mackinac Policy Conference, live news events, and documentaries. A sought-after moderator, she led lively discussions at the BLM’s CEO Summit, International Women’s Day events, Mackinac Policy Conference, Detroit Policy Conference, and Detroit Economic Club, among others.
In 2014 and 2018, she co-moderated Gubernatorial debates. Furthermore, she appeared as a featured guest on the syndicated radio show “Remarkable Women” and WJR’s “Anything is Possible.” Her career also helped her to work at WDET public radio as a guest host/panelist. From September 2000 to December 2010, she worked for WXYZ-TV in Southfield, Michigan as a reporter and anchor.
