Dan Hicken Profile
Dan Hicken (full name – Daniel Patrick Hicken) is an American Emmy Award-winning Anchor, Reporter, and Director working at WJAX – CBS 47 in Jacksonville, Florida as a sports anchor. He began working for WJAX-TV in June 2013.
Dan Hicken Career and Education
Hicken is a proud graduate of the University of Florida. When it comes to his profession, Hicken serves at WJAX-TV’s Action Sports Jax and WFOX 30 as a sports anchor. He has over 2 and a half decades of experience in local TV news. Besides his work at WJAX, he also serves as a host of a weekday morning (from 7 AM to 10 AM) radio show on 92.5 FM and 1010XL.
After graduating from college, Hicken started his TV career with an internship at 12 News on WTLV in Jacksonville, Florida. He steadily climbed the ranks at the station, working as a sports producer in the year 1986, then transitioning to a weekend sports anchor 2 years later. In the year 1991, after 6 years at WTLV, he became the sports director.
Hicken personally covers significant local events like the Daytona 500, Jacksonville Jaguars games, and The Players Championship. He also attends national events with a Florida connection, including national championship games for both the Seminoles and Gators. Additionally, he serves as a host of “The Drill” on WJXL radio.
On May 31, 2013, his contract with First Coast News ended. Due to disagreements over the terms of a new contract, Hicken departed from First Coast News and joined WFOX-TV and WJAX-TV. However, his previous contract included a non-compete clause, preventing him from appearing on-air for half a year. During this time, he focused on developing and writing sports stories until after Thanksgiving.
Hicken still has 3 big dreams for his favorite sports teams: a World Series win for the NY Mets, a Jaguars Super Bowl victory by the year 2020, and watching his alma mater, the Florida Gators, claim another championship trophy. During his childhood, he played various sports and received several honors. In high school at Miami Sunset, he earned an honorable mention all-county in water polo, but he also faced the unusual situation of being removed from the National Honor Society.
He once led a media team as quarterback to the semifinals in a flag football game and even played in a professional basketball match, though he didn’t score any points, going 0-5 from the field.
