Pierzynski began his major league career with the Minnesota Twins in 1998 and has since played for the San Francisco Giants, Chicago White Sox, Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, and Atlanta Braves. The left-handed hitter was a two-time MLB All-Star (2002, 2006), won a World Series with the White Sox in 2005, and received the Silver Slugger Award in 2012.
Pierzynski graduated from high school in 1994 and signed a letter of intent with the University of Tennessee to play baseball. He was also chosen by the Minnesota Twins in the third round (71st overall) of that year’s MLB Draft and signed with the team on June 9.

Pierzynski helped the White Sox go undefeated in his first season, winning the AL Central on September 29, 2005, against the Detroit Tigers. Pierzynski set a new career-high with 18 home runs in the 2005 playoffs. His most memorable regular-season home run came in the bottom of the ninth inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 18, 2005, to seal a 5–3 victory.
He famously struck out on a low ball in the dirt in Game 2 of the ALCS against the then-Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and was replaced by Pablo Ozuna, who promptly stole second base after the Angels argued with the home plate umpire over the call.
