Furthermore, she worked for KERN talk radio in Bakersfield as Co-Host and Anchor of the morning show for 9 months (from January 1996 to September 1996). Allen has won an Edward R. Murrow Award for assisting a mother in North Texas to track down lost cord blood she needed urgently for her sick kid. Her investigation led to the closing of the blood bank. Allen has uncovered loopholes in the banking industry of cord blood that caused the risk to individuals’ lives. The Dallas Bar Association has also honored Allen multiple times. For investigating a series of reports ranging from questionable deaths to Texas State Jail’s medical standards, Allen received the Grand Prize Stephen Philbin Award from The Dallas Bar Association. These investigations have made her garner national attention from civil rights groups across the Texas state.

Allen has also won other Philbin awards for her investigation of a Dallas Firefighter’s death, which was a result of a big fire. This coverage led to changes in on-scene procedures. She received a Lone Star Emmy Award for exposing convenience stores in North Texas, that were overcharging customers in terms of taxes. Allen has also done investigations into the risks of overheating laptop lithium-ion batteries. Additionally, she has reported on an online public computer database that exposed minors’ and adults’ sensitive personal information.

Allen has been honored by the State Bar of Texas with the Texas Gavel Award. Additionally, she has been recognized with awards by the California Department of Health Services, the Press Club of Dallas, and the Associated Press.
