Jason Fielder Career
Fielder serves at WNEM as an anchor and reporter for TV5 news. Fielder is an alumnus of Saginaw Valley State University. There he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Communication. After that, he went to the prestigious S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications(a graduate school), in Syracuse, New York. There he graduated with a Master of Science in Broadcast Journalism.
He then began interning at various stations: WEYI-TV 25 in Clio, where he spent most of his time in the newsroom, WTOP Radio in Washington, D.C. where he took coverage on major league baseball, especially the Nationals and Orioles, and WKTV 2 in Utica and WSTM-TV NBC 3 in Syracuse, in New York where he took coverage on sports.
Eventually, he started his career in Alpena, Michigan, where he worked for WBKB-TV as the morning weekday sports reporter and the morning weekend sports anchor. He was however promoted to Sports Director at the station.
Fielder was a volunteer for the MDA, co-hosting the Jerry Lewis Telethon at WBKB-TV for the whole local segment. He has also served as the celebrity auctioneer at the Cardinal Cabaret, a spring fundraiser for the SVSU Athletic Department and as the keynote speaker at a variety of SVSU Scholarship Recognition Programs. In addition, Fielder is a member of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society and a founding member of the Upsilon Delta Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon at Saginaw Valley State University(SVSU).
He created the “Fielder’s Choice” sports story series while at TV5. He accepts sporting challenges from the audience in them. For his “Fielder’s Choice” story, in which he was challenged by a young female archer, he earned a 2008 Michigan Associated Press Award for the best feature story.
