Gross serves at WNEM, where he has been casting weather on weekdays and weekends at First Warn 5 newscasts since December 2018. He joined the station as a Trainee Meteorologist. Gross’ fascination with the weather has been evident since he was a child. He would always prefer to watch the Weather Channel rather than cartoons like most children do. Storm Stories with Jim Cantore was one of his favorite shows as a kid, and he used to watch it all the time.
In 2012, Gross graduated from Monroe High School. After that, he attended Monroe County Community College for 2 years and graduated in May 2014 with an Associate’s degree. He then attended Central Michigan University for 4 years. At CMU, Gross worked at News Central 34, an award-winning on-campus station, and gained crucial forecasting skills. Also, he was working as an intern at WLNS 6 Lansing and Fox 2 Detroit, while at the university. He eventually graduated in May 2018 with a minor in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology.
Gross was driven to study meteorology because he wanted to understand and witness the science behind the many different types of hazardous weather phenomena. Also, he wanted to understand the harm that hazardous weather can do to structures and people’s lives. Ginger Zee, Jerry Hodak, and Rich Luterman were among the other well-known meteorologists and instructors who influenced Gross.
He’s looking forward to continuing his real-life forecasting experience in Michigan, as well as working with the rest of the First Warn 5 Weather Team.
During his leisure, he enjoys finding new songs to add to his music collection. Also, he likes the outdoors either camping or on the lake, or spending time with loved ones(family and friends).
