Asher is a proud alumnus of Oxford University and Columbia University. She first graduated from Oxford University in the year 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Spanish and French. She then graduated from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism in the year 2006 with a Master of Science in Broadcast Journalism. Asher serves at CNN as a news anchor of “One World with Zain Asher,” the new global news program which airs from Monday to Friday at 12 pm ET. She has worked as an anchor for significant business stories and breaking news for CNN such as the August 2020 explosion in Beirut, the COVID-19 pandemic, Nigeria’s anti-police violence protests, and the US-China trade war, just to name a few.

Asher was among the CNN team that was assigned to go to Nigeria to cover the kidnapping of many schoolgirls by Boko Haram militants in Chibok in the year 2014. The coverage of the horrific abduction done by the CNN team was honored with a 2014 Peabody Award.
