Martin reported many major headlines during his tenure in Washington, including covering life for several days in New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, reporting live in Miami on the assassination of Washington Redskins football player Sean Taylor, and was the first live correspondent on the scene of the award-winning FOX 5 coverage of the serial bank robberies in D.C.
