Dawson serves at Fox 8 as a co-host of Fox 8 in the morning, a morning show broadcast. Wayne worked as co-anchor of the weekend editions of FOX 8 News before teaming up with the morning crew, ranked number 1 with Wayne behind the desk for five straight years. Wayne was an anchor/reporter at WNIR Radio in Kent, Ohio for two years prior to joining WJW in the late-’70s. The 1979 Kent State University graduate holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism in the humanities.
Wayne is a member of the NAACP, the National Association of Black Journalists, and the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity, and an eleven-time Emmy recipient. He is a member of the Hall of Fame of Broadcasters as well. Wayne was inducted into the NATAS Silver Circle in 2014 and has won the Cleveland Press Club’s Chuck Heaton Award.
He was also awarded the Journalism and Mass Media School of Kent State University’s William Taylor Alumni award. Wayne was named one of the Jaycees twice. Outstanding Young Men of America.” In addition, Wayne was selected as “Outstanding TV News Writer” by the Professional Women’s Business Association and Delta Sigma Theta named him “Man of the Year.” Wayne Dawson is also an ordained minister.”
