Wade Hampton Profile

Wade Hampton Career
He serves at KPLC as the Chief Meteorologist at the station. Before joining KPLC, he was in Casper, Wyoming, holding the position of Chief Meteorologist at the NBC affiliate KCWY. Hampton has aspired to be a television meteorologist since he was in elementary school. He used to enjoy watching the local weather, particularly Roy Leep of WTVT, a Fox-owned-and-operated television in Tampa when he was a kid. He experienced sea breeze thunderstorms virtually every afternoon when he was growing up. This was happening sometimes from the west coast and sometimes from the east coast. He liked watching the weather on WTVT because of the daily thunderstorms.
In May 2003, he graduated with minors in Physics and Math, and a B.S. degree in Meteorology from Florida State University in Tallahassee. There, he co-founded “FSU Weather,” a student-run live weather broadcast. This was a 30-minute television show in which various student meteorologists performed weather segments.
He then started his career at WTVT, in Tampa, where he worked as an intern. WTVT was the station he grew up watching, therefore, it was a thrilling experience for him since he got an opportunity to work there. Also, Hampton was interning at WCTV, the CBS affiliate located in Tallahassee.
Hampton is captivated by hurricanes, especially when Hurricane Charley passed directly through Wade’s hometown during the remarkable 2004 season. Therefore, Hampton wants to provide the finest coverage possible to SouthWest Louisiana if a storm threatens. However, he, together with the rest of the 7Stormteam, hopes that a storm never strikes Southwest Louisiana again.
During his leisure, he enjoys all of the outdoor activities that Southwest Louisiana has to offer e.g. fishing and hunting. Also, he enjoys reading and learning about Civil War history.
