There he was among the crew that was responsible for providing assistance in the launching of the first statewide newscast in Montana.
In the year 2019, Hawkins was nominated for an E.B. Craney Award and was recognized for his breaking news coverage. He has been an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) since the year 2014. Also, he has been actively involved in the Kansas Association of Black Journalists (KABJ) since the year 2019.
Besides working as a journalist, Hawkins has been working as the University of Southern California’s Annenberg Fellow since July 2015. Also, he has been working as a Student Researcher at Boise State University McNair Scholar in Idaho since August 2013.
