Lopez is a 1988 graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he attained his Bachelor of Science in Communications. Prior to joining CBS 13 News, he worked at KCNC-TV where he served as the weekend anchor from 2002 TO 2005. Before that, he worked at KSAT 12 TV where he served as the morning anchor and reporter from 1997 to 2002. He spent about 2 years working at FOX 7 News in Austin, Texas where he served as the 5 pm News anchor and reporter, before going to KSAT. From 1990 to 1992, he worked at KCRA where he served as the overnight News Anchor.
