As for his education, he graduated in 1951 from Detroit’s Mackenzie high school. Later, he attended Wayne state university and the University of California, Los Angels. Skerritt has also served in the United States Air Force.

Tom Skerritt Death Valley Days

In 1964, he was cast in Bonanza and on Death Valley Days in 1965, as a young gambler, Patrick Hogan meets a tragic fate after winning a small fortune in a saloon. In another Death Valley Days episode, A Sense of Justice in 1966, he played a young Roy Bean with his older brother, Joshua Bean, played by Tris Coffin. In a later Death Valley Days role, Skerritt played Mark Twain in the 1968 episode Ten Day Millionaires, with Dabney Coleman as Twain’s mining partner, Calvin H. Higby. The two lose a fortune in gold, but Twain learns his future is in writing.

Alien is an American science fiction horror film that was directed by Ridley Scott and written by Dan O’Bannon in 1979. The film is based on a story by Ronald Shusett and O’Bannon which follows the crew of the commercial space tug Nostromo, who encounter the eponymous Alien.

An alien is an aggressive and deadly extraterrestrial set loose on the ship in the film. In addition, other than Tom, other stars in the film include; Yaphet Kotto, Ian Holm, John Hurt, Harry Dean Stanton, Veronica Cartwright, and Sigourney Weaver. He played the role of Captain Arthur Dallas in the film. 

Tom Skerritt Top Gun 

Top Gun is an American action drama film that was directed by Tony Scott and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, and Don Simpson in association with  Paramount Pictures in 1986. The screenplay was inspired by an article titled “Top Guns” published in California magazine three years earlier.

In the film, Skerritt played the role of  CDR Mike Viper Metcalf who was a commanding officer and instructor of Top Gun. He was also a veteran of the Vietnam War who served with Duke Mitchell, Maverick’s father. Apart from Tom, the film also starred Tom Cruise who was an LT Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, a US Navy pilot,  Anthony Edward as LTJG Nick “Goose” Bradshaw, Maverick’s Radar Intercept Officer, and best friend, and Val Kilmer as LT Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, one of Top Gun’s students and Maverick’s rival turned wingman.
