He was among the 1st international broadcasters to report that the landfall storm impact in the Philippines’ intense winds made it the strongest typhoon to make landfall on any landmass, recorded in history.

Before he joined CNN, he served as a meteorologist in several United States markets such as Cincinnati, Ohio; Washington, D.C.; Lexington, Kentucky; Atlanta, Georgia; and Montgomery, Alabama. In the year 1998, he earned a regional Emmy for Outstanding Weather Anchor, while working for WKYT-TV as the chief meteorologist. Sater has worked for WTTG in Washington, D.C. and while there, he won the regional Emmy Awards for Outstanding Weather Anchor for 4 successive years.

Throughout his career, he has earned several awards. He holds 5 Emmy Awards for his work as a meteorologist. He was part of the CNN team that covered Typhoon Haiyan.
