Brando serves at FOX Sports as a sportscaster with CBS Sports and Fox Sports. He began as a play-by-play announcer for the network’s college football and college basketball coverage at FOX Sports. Along with analyst Spencer Tillman, he is still on the call for college football on FOX and FS1. When the calendar flips from fall to winter, Brando takes his FOX Sports microphone to the college basketball court.
Throughout his lengthy career, Brando has called a wide range of sports, including college football and basketball, MLB, NBA, and golf, and he was one of the most prominent voices of the NCAA Tournament beginning in 1996. Before joining FOX Sports, Brando worked for CBS Sports for 18 years as the studio host of its “College Football Today” and “At The Half” studio shows. He also worked as a play-by-play announcer for CBS’s coverage of SEC college football and the NFL on CBS (1998-02).
Brando joined CBS in 1996 as one of the network’s voices for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, a position he held until 2013. He has also hosted Raycom’s Emmy Award-winning nationally syndicated show “Football Saturdays” and served as the lead play-by-play voice for Raycom’s coverage of SEC and ACC basketball. Prior to joining CBS, Brando worked for ESPN for eight years, calling play-by-play for more than 25 sports and serving as studio host of “SportsCenter,” the network’s halftime show (1986-94) and NCAA Tournament coverage (1987-90). From 1994 to 1996, he worked as a play-by-play announcer and studio host for TNT, covering the NBA, including playoffs.
For SportsSouth, he also called Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Hawks games. Brando was the Carolina Panthers’ preseason voice from 1995 to 2001, and he currently serves in the same capacity for the New Orleans Saints. From 2001 to 2015, Brando hosted the hugely popular radio show “Tim Brando Show,” which grew to become one of, if not the, most respected college sports shows in the country. It began as a nationally syndicated sports talk radio show before being simulcasted by CBS Sports Network in 2011 and SiriusXM in 2013.
From 2012 to 2013, he hosted digital coverage for CBS’s presentation of the Masters, and in 2012, he was the lead television announcer for the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf Champions Tour event on CBS. Brando received the prestigious Lindsey Nelson Award in 2014, a national honor given to a college football broadcaster each year.
