Cobbs was born and raised in Jesup, Georgia, United States to her loving and caring parents, Bishop Fritz Cobbs, father, and Pastor Bertha Cobbs, her mother. Her father was born in the year 1954 and unfortunately, he passed away in the year 2014.

Cobbs is best known for singing the hit single, “Break Every Chain.” During the 56th Annual Grammy Awards, she won the Grammy for Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance. In the course of her career, she won 15 Stellar Awards, 3 Billboard Music Awards, and 9 Dove Awards. She is a student at Beulah Heights University where she awaits completion for her undergraduate Degree.

From the year 2006, she toured America with Pastor William H. Murphy III(of the Dream Center Church in Atlanta, Georgia) for three years. From then on, she has been leading worship at the Dream Center and managing the Worship and Arts Department. Back in the year 2018, she appeared as herself in the film series, Sinners Wanted. Back in the year 2019, she and her husband, Kenneth, founded The Purpose Place Church in Spartanburg, South Carolina where they serve as pastors.

Later on, she began her solo music career in the year 2010 with the independently self-released album Smile. This album got the attention of EMI Gospel(now Motown Gospel).
