Zirinsky serves at CBS as the president and senior executive producer of CBS News, a position she began on March 1, 2019.┬áIn the first nine months, Zirinsky supervised the revision of the news division, including the unveiling of “CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell” and the relocation of the show to Washington, D.C., where it became the first nightly newscast network to be located in the nation’s capital. She re-imagined the “CBS This Morning” anchor team with co-hosts Gayle King, Anthony Mason, and Tony Dokoupil, and further merged linear and streaming newsrooms to further broaden CBS News’ multi-platform reach. A variety of flagship shows, including ’60 Minutes,’ ‘CBS This Morning,’ ‘CBS Evening News,’ ’48 Hours’ and a recently formed CBS News Special Events Team, were also appointed by the new Executive Director and other new Executive Producers.

Zirinsky, an acclaimed journalist and well-regarded executive producer at CBS News, started her career in the CBS News Washington office two weeks after the Watergate break-in. Over the next four decades, she produced a wide variety of award-winning films and programs, documenting a range of historical stories, from the Gulf War to the student revolt on Tiananmen Square, from the White House for 10 years to the 9/11 attacks, and from the Paris terrorist attacks to the mass shooting of Parkland, Fla. Prior to taking on her current job, Zirinsky was the senior executive producer of the award-winning “48 Hours” and was responsible for various press releases from CBS News. Zirinsky began CBS News at a crucial moment in the history of the country. She produced specials after the deaths of Mary Tyler Moore, Muhammad Ali, and Nelson Mandela. She has also written news reports about royal weddings, Dallas police killings, Boston Marathon bombings, Sandy Hook shootings, and others. One night she was alone in the CBS newsroom when the story emerged that President Richard Nixon had sacked his attorney general, the so-called “Saturday Night Massacre” in October 1973. The night Whitney Houston died, she found herself in the middle of a colossal novel.

Zirinsky was a White House producer who served ten years in the Carter and Reagan administration. In 1989, CBS News was sent to Beijing, China, to cover the unrest in Tiananmen Square. She was the producer in charge of the U.S. invasion of Panama and was dispatched to cover Operation Desert Storm. In 1992 she was Head of CBS News Reform Analysis and then Executive Producer of “Campaign ’96” She was also the senior producer of CBS News at the 1992 Olympic Winter Games in Albertville, France, where she supervised the network’s news desk for CBS News and Sports.
