Elan was in St. Joseph, Missouri in the year 2017 where she covered the solar eclipse that turned out to be a crowd-pleasing event despite the weather.

Elam has reported the Prince’s death (legendary musician from Minnesota), and the shooting of Michael Brown (unarmed teenager) in Ferguson, Missouri. She was among the 1st reporters to provide live-on-scene coverage of the aftermath of the shooting at Los International Airport that stranded many travelers and led to the death of Gerardo Hernandez (TSA agent).
