Bayless serves at FOX Sports as the host of the sports opinion and debate show SKIP AND SHANNON: UNDISPUTED, airing weekdays on FS1. He co-hosted FIRST TAKE on ESPN2 with Stephen A. Smith and began his career with the network in 2004 with COLD PIZZA on ESPN2. Bayless has a long and illustrious journalism career and has previously worked with FOX Sports. In 2001 and 2002, Bayless was a regular on Jim Rome’s show THE LAST WORD on FOX Sports Net, as well as on FOX Sports’ THE BEST DAMN SPORTS SHOW PERIOD.
Bayless began his career as a newspaper columnist, most notably as the Chicago Tribune’s lead sports columnist. He also worked for the Dallas Morning News, the Dallas Times Herald, the Miami Herald, and the Los Angeles Times. For his journalism, he received numerous honors. Bayless was named Illinois Sportswriter of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association in 2000 while working for the Chicago Tribune. The National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association named Bayless Texas Sportswriter of the Year three times (1979, 1984, and 1986), and he received the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Newspaper Writing in 1977 for his coverage of Seattle Slew’s Triple Crown victory while working for the Los Angeles Times.
Bayless has written for a number of national sports magazines, including Sports Illustrated. He’s also worked in sports radio and television, and he’s written three books. Bayless attended Vanderbilt University and majored in English and history before graduating with honors in 1974. He was the sports editor of The Hustler, the university’s student newspaper, and spent the summer of 1969 interning at The Daily Oklahoman under sports editor Frank Boggs. Bayless was raised in Oklahoma City.
