McCarthy portrays Agnes Rofa in the Netflix adaptation of The Umbrella Academy. Agnes Rofa was Hazel’s love interest and the former owner of Griddy’s Doughnuts. She is first seen working as a waitress and baker at Griddy’s Doughnuts.
She enjoys bird-watching in her spare time. Her ambition is to one day save enough money to quit her job, relocate to the countryside, and establish a vegetable garden and bakery. When he and Cha-Cha are sent to 2019 to stop Five from preventing the apocalypse, they meet Hazel.
Hazel gradually develops feelings for Agnes, and she, in turn, develops feelings for him. Eventually, knowing that the apocalypse is approaching and that they must make the most of the time they have, he persuades Agnes not to wait any longer and to pursue her dreams now.
As a result, Agnes closes her store and the two flee the city, while an enraged Cha-Cha threatens to kill them both. They first stop at a motel, where Hazel tells her to wait for him while he tries to avert the apocalypse.
While he’s gone, Cha-Cha finds Agnes and kidnaps her. When Hazel returns, he and Cha-Cha have a brawl. Agnes is on the verge of death when the Handler stops time and breaks up the fight. The Handler then kidnaps Agnes and demands that Cha-Cha and Hazel continue their mission.
Hazel goes rogue once more, throwing Cha-Cha out of a car and killing the Handler, saving Agnes. Despite knowing about Hazel’s past, Agnes forgives him. They can be seen teleporting to an unknown time and location. Agnes and Hazel are together for about 20 years before Agnes dies of cancer. Hazel tells Five that her death was painless and that they had had a good time together.
