On Thursday, November 27, 1952, KTBC-TV broadcast its first television broadcast, becoming Austin’s and Central Texas’ first television station. Johnson and his wife Lady Bird, along with KTBC radio.

Lady Bird Johnson used her family inheritance money to purchase KTBC-TV; she remained active with her radio station until she was in her eighties, making her the first president’s wife to become a millionaire on her own. It carried all four major networks at the time: AB, ABC, CBS, and NBC.
