Ali serves at WDIV-TV as the anchor for WDIV-TV Local 4 News at 6 & 11 p.m. on the weekends. She has appeared on the Fox News channel, CNN, and CNN Headline News on a number of occasions. Sandra is often asked to discuss her experiences as a professional Arab-American woman juggling Middle Eastern and Western cultures by different community organizations and national media outlets.
Sandra earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism from Syracuse University’s prestigious S.I. Newhouse School of Journalism when she was 20 years old. She received a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism on her 21st birthday. Sandra then moved on to her first television job, at a CBS affiliate in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
It was time to move on to the Motor City after two years to anchor the top-rated weekend editions of “Fox 2 News at 6” and “Fox 2 News at 10,” as well as report for Fox 2 News. Ali was named Best Hard News Reporter by the Associated Press in 2002, and Best Breaking News Reporter by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters in 2003.
While in Detroit, Ali also landed big interviews with then-Secretary of State Colin Powell, the Queen of Jordan, and former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak. Sandra became the main anchor of the NBC affiliate in Cincinnati, Ohio, in August 2004. She anchors the station’s 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts.
