Young is a proud graduate of Florida State University. He graduated from the university with a Bachelor’s degree in media production. When it comes to his profession, Young serves at CNN as a Senior National Correspondent based in CNN’s Atlanta bureau.
Before Young joined CNN, he worked for WSB-TV- Channel 2 Action News in Atlanta, Georgia. as a news reporter. While there, he worked closely with Law Enforcement, where he broke a number of exclusives on significant crime investigations. Young’s work was directly involved in assisting to catch numerous criminals. There he wore many hats; Reporter, studio camera operator, editor, and photojournalist, keeping local viewers in touch with a wide array of big stories. Some of these big stories included Florida State’s National Championship run and the 2002 Florida elections.
After that, he moved to WTOC-TV in Savannah, Georgia where he served as a news reporter. While there, he provided viewers with up-to-the-minute late-night and crucial reports. He earned 2 Associated Press (AP) awards; one for best spot news coverage of a significant street collapse and the other one for the best investigative piece that uncovered dangerous cigarette lighters.
From there, he went to work as a news reporter for WNCN-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina where he told stories of individuals whose lives were destroyed by hurricanes Frances and Ivan. While there, he also covered the problem of gangs in North Carolina state, producing a groundbreaking coverage of gangs in the military. He gained national recognition from that story.
