Ryan Phillips is an American meteorologist working for NBC6 serving as the weekend meteorologist. He has forecasted Florida weather since 2003, working on both the Gulf and Atlantic coasts.
Ryan Phillips Career
Ryan graduated from Ohio University, where he majored in geography and meteorology and worked as a tutor as well as a part-time instructor in the Department of Geography. Philips serves as the weekend evening meteorologist for NBC6. Before joining the NBC6 Weather Team, Ryan worked for WZVN, the ABC affiliate in Naples/Ft. Myers, where he forecasted for the weekend morning and evening broadcasts for two years. Ryan was part of the forecast team that watched historic Category 4 Hurricane Charley make landfall in Southwest Florida in August 2004.
Soon after moving to South Florida, he put his valuable experience to use as hurricanes Katrina and Wilma wreaked havoc on our community. Since then, Ryan has assisted South Florida in dealing with hurricanes Matthew in 2016 and Irma in 2017. Ryan spent more than three years at KHGI in Central Nebraska, where his weathercasts were recognized by the Associated Press of Nebraska, before moving to Florida.
Conveniently, Ryan’s interests drew him to tropical weather and the effects of hurricanes on populated coastal areas. Ryan has also received the National Weather Association’s Seal of Approval. Ryan and his family support a national scholarship for undergraduate meteorology students through the National Weather Association. The American Meteorological Society has also certified him as a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist.
Phillips is an active volunteer and supporter of the Humane Society of Greater Miami, as well as a supporter of the South Florida-based “FLIPANY” and the Miami Rescue Mission. Ryan also enjoys speaking to schools and community organizations about hurricane preparedness and weather awareness.
