Ryan Haarer is an American Anchor/Reporter, who is well-known for having worked at 9NEWS. He joined the station in June 2014. He works as a Denver real estate agent. 

When it comes to education, He is proud of Sun Devil, where he graduated from Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism with a degree in Mass Communication.

Ryan Haarer Career

Haarer served at 9NEWS as a co-anchor of the weekend evening newscasts, as well as as a reporter for the 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts from Monday to Friday. Before joining 9NEWS he worked as a morning reporter at KVOA. He began reporting on Denver’s heroin epidemic with a story that caught people shooting up and dealing drugs in broad daylight on the city’s popular Cherry Creek Trail.

While he reported related stories received recognition with a regional Emmy for Continuing Coverage as well as a Murrow Award. He also received a regional Emmy for his coverage of a powerful blizzard in March of 2016. Haarer and his photojournalist hit a snowbank near Watkins and found themselves stranded for hours. In the month of  July 2016, Ryan traveled to Dallas to assist sister station WFAA. He was to with the coverage of five police officers that had been shot and killed at a protest.

Haarer has been covering the aftermath, speaking with injured victims, and sharing the stories of a mourning community. Ryan also covered the implosion of the old University Hospital in Denver helping the 9NEWS team win an AP Award. After his graduation, he took his first job in Tucson, Arizona as a morning reporter at KVOA. He spent the summer of 2017 working as a freelance reporter for KPHO and KTVK in Phoenix but returned to 9NEWS in November of that year.

Haarer left 9NEWS after a 6-year stint with the station. He quit working with 9NEWS to dive into the booming world of Denver real estate, as an agent for the Keller Williams firm. He says that he has a few friends working in real estate, both on the sales and the contracting side, and conversations with them had always piqued his interest. Haarer began taking real estate courses in the morning before his 9News shift began and joined Keller Williams a few weeks before splitting from 9NEWS.
