Surette serves as the evening news anchor and executive producer at 4 p.m., 6 p.m., and 10 p.m. on KBTX-TV. He is also the host and emcee of some events including the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets Hall of Honor Gala and the Hispanic Forum of Bryan College Station Scholarship Gala. He started his TV career while in high school based in Beaumont-Port Arthur, Texas. Prior to joining KBTX-TV he previously worked at stations all across Oklahoma City, Raleigh, North Carolina, Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Las Vegas.
In 2011, he joined the American Red Cross and took a short break from television news. While there, he assisted a ton of disaster victims across Texas, Oklahoma, and Mississippi. Surette is still serving as a board member and Red Cross volunteer. In addition to that, he is also a supporter and board member of other non-profit organizations including Project Unity, I Heart Bryan, and Health For All.
Rusty has also received several awards including the Texas Associated Press Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas Award for an investigative report about a local school district. In addition to that, he was also nominated for three Emmys and received two regional RTDNA Edward R. Murrow awards. Rusty also received the Louisiana Associated Press, the Texas Associated Press, the Nevada Electronic Media Association, the Southeast Texas Press Club, and the Oklahoma Society of Professional Journalists.
