Royal Norman is an American seven-time Emmy Award-winning meteorologist working at CBS 5 News serving as a weeknight meteorologist at 5 p.m., 8 p.m., and 9 p.m. He has been working for the station since 2001 after working for WXIA-TV.

Royal Norman Career

Norman is a Chief meteorologist working in Arizona’s Family. In 2001, he rejoined 3TV from WXIA-TV, and currently, he works as Arizona Family’s Chief Meteorologist during weeknights and is regularly seen during 5 p.m., 8 p.m., and 9 p.m. forecasts.

As for his education, he joined Arizona State University to further his education. After completing his studies there, he graduated in 1984 with a degree in meteorology-climatology. During that summer, he began working as a weekend meteorologist. He also earned his American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval for both television and radio broadcasting.

In the course of his 12 years at 3TV, he attended 50th-anniversary services at the USS Arizona Memorial in 1991, covered the eruption of Mount Kilauea in Hawaii, and also covered a tornado live from the station helicopter. Norman was on the air as the under-construction Mill Avenue Bridge collapsed into the roaring flood waters of the Salt River. In addition to that, he was on the original crew of Good Morning Arizona.

Norman moved to Atlanta in 1996 to work for WXIA-TV. During his time there, he served the station as a Chief Meteorologist. He also enjoyed living near the east coast chasing hurricanes, something that never happens in Arizona.

In 2010, he was inducted into the Southwest Rocky Mountain NATAS Silver Circle. He was also honored by the Arizona State University College of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning with the Distinguished Alumnus Award.
