Saberi spent six years working and blogging in Iran. Fluent in Persia, she covered politics, foreign affairs, the nuclear program, the environment, culture, and the evolving status of women in Iran. While there, she opened and ran the Tehran office of Feature Story Journalism, contributing regular and in-depth news stories to media organizations including PBS, Fox News, Channel News Asia, NPR, PRI, and Deutsche Welle. She has worked as a freelance reporter for the BBC in Iran and filed radio stories for ABC.
In 2009, while writing a book on Iran, Saberi was detained and held in Tehran’s Evin Prison for 100 days on a bogus charge of CIA espionage. After an international petition for her release, she returned to the United States and wrote the book Between Two Worlds: My Life and Imprisonment in Iran. She continued to contribute stories on Iran and the Middle East and worked as a commentator for numerous news organizations in Iran.
