Ron Jones Career
Jones serves at 11Alive as a reporter and Evening News Anchor. While working as an officer for the Oakland Police Department, he began his television career in 1988. He was featured in cable television commercials related to crime prevention as well as patrolling the streets of Oakland as an officer.
Later, he was given the opportunity to write, produce, and host various crime prevention and public affairs show for the Oakland Police Department, including “Bay Area Crime Watch” and “OPD on TV.” These programs featured wanted people from Northern California as well as crime prevention advice.
In 1994, Ron was promoted to sergeant and appointed as the OPD’s public information officer. He left law enforcement and was offered his first television news reporter job with CBS affiliate WDBJ in Roanoke, Virginia, after being inspired and mentored by KPIX reporter Sherri Hu.
He was quickly promoted to weekend news anchor and reporter while he was there. In 1996, his television skills led him back to his Northern California roots, where he spent seven years as the weekend anchor for KCRA. He covered everything from crime to education in the central valley during his time at KCRA. Ron took a break from the news business in 2001 to care for his ailing parents.
In 2003, Ron returned to the Bay Area to join the KPIX family in San Francisco as a co-anchor. In 2003, Ron returned to the Bay Area, joining the KPIX family in San Francisco as a weekend morning co-anchor. Ron joined CBS13 in 2004 and went on to work as a morning anchor and reporter. As the ‘Up Late’ anchor and visual storyteller for 11Alive, he is now a member of the news family.
