Hill serves at KGW as the weather anchor. He is also the owner of PortlandWeather.com LLC & app. His meteorological career has spanned nearly three decades, bringing him from hurricanes in south Texas to lake effect snows in Michigan, tornadoes in the Ohio Valley, and, yes, the difficult-to-predict weather of the Pacific Northwest.
Rod attended Mizzou University. He went on to Mississippi State University to get his broadcast meteorology degree. Soon after, the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association gave Rod their seal of approval. He later spent more than five years on the NWA certification board.
Rod has been recognized for his forecasting skills and on-air broadcast style since arriving in the Northwest in 1999. Two Emmy awards for the best meteorologist and three Associated Press awards for best weathercast in Oregon are among his meteorological accomplishments. Rod has been with KGW since December 2009 and is the Sunrise meteorologist Monday through Friday. Golf and the celebration of a hole-in-one in February 2009 (5-iron, 171 yards) are two of his passions, as is truly enjoying the beauty of the Northwest.
