Schlesinger, an award-winning writer, has covered a variety of national and foreign stories, ranging from mass killings in Newtown, Conn. Elementary School and Aurora, Columbia, film theater to feature fares such as the profile of actor Fyvush Finkel and a story on a firm that designs book collections.

During his lifetime, he explored stories about the economic realities of the middle class in America, marriage and divorce, the arts, sports, and crime. As the “48 Hours,” correspondent, he has gone head-to-head in interviews with killers, helped drive long-term investigations into cold crimes, and managed to cover reports for more than a dozen years.
Schlesinger, regarded as a terrific news journalist, has received two Alfred I. DuPont Columbia Awards and 10 Emmy Awards. He received his first duPont-Columbia Award for his work on the 1997 documentary “CBS Reports: Enter the Jury Room.”He was also part of the Newtown, Conn., elementary school shooting squad, which received the 2014 CBS News duPont-Columbia award.
In 1984, he joined CBS News as a correspondent at the Miami network headquarters, reporting coverage in the southeastern United States and South America. In 1987, he relocated to the CBS News Northeast Office. At CBS News, Schlesinger operated in nearly every region and on all the networks covered by the division. Previously, he was an anchor for the “CBS Evening News” and a replacement for the “CBS Evening News.” weekday news and weekend news networks.
Before joining CBS News, Schlesinger was Director of the Washington Office for Post-Newsweek television stations (1980-1984). He was formerly a political correspondent for WPLG-TV Miami (1976-80) where he received the Sigma Delta Chi Award.
