On September 11th, 2001 when there was the falling of towers, he was covering for the network at the World Trade Center in N.Y.
Roth hosted an in-depth profile of serial killers, “Murder by Numbers” in the year 1992. In the previous year, Roth contributed to the network’s special report, “Europe on the Brink: A look at Western Europe’s Disappearing Borders.” He was among the network’s team that covered the Gulf War for a year (1991 to 1992). In the year 1985, Roth reported on the terrorist attacks at the Leonardo DaVinci Airport in Rome and on the Achille Lauro cruise ship.
Before Roth joined CNN, he worked for AP Radio as a news reporter and anchor. Also, he served at WPIX-TV in New York as a producer. On April 18, 2022, CNN Business revealed Roth’s recovery from successful kidney transplant surgery. It was announced that Samira Jafari, his colleague was Roth’s donor of the kidney. Roth calls Samira his “heroine.” Roth said that this is his second transplant. About 2 and a half decades ago, he received a kidney from a deceased donor. In September 2021, he wrote a letter to his colleagues that his valiant kidney was rapidly dying inside him and that he should have an organ donation as soon as possible. However, he received a kidney from Samira Jafari, underwent a successful transplant, and he is now in good health.
