Reed Cowan Career
Cowan serves as the 3 p.m. anchor at KPIX5. In addition to these roles at the station, he is also a director who directed The Other Side of the Lens in 2009. He began his journalism career at KNEU Radio in Roosevelt, Utah where he served as a radio disc jockey. In addition to that, he spent some time working part-time at Fox’s KSTU in Salt Lake City, Utah where he served as an on-air reporter.
Cowan, later on, started working at KBAK-TV in Bakersfield, California where he served as an anchor. He also served as an anchor at WWTV based in Cadillac, Michigan. He left the station and joined KSL-TV in Salt Lake City where he served as the weekend morning anchor and reporter.
Cowan, later on, left KSL-TV for KTVX which is also based in Salt Lake City where he served as the anchor of Good Morning Utah. During her tenure at KTVX, he enclosed several stories including the kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart, the terrorist attacks of 9-11, the death of former President Ronald Reagan, the murder of Lori Hacking, and the fugitive stories of polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs.
Cowan received several awards including an Emmy Award and several Emmy Awards Nominations for reporting. Furthermore, he was the first LGBTQ anchor in Utah. Whenever he is not busy working, he enjoys spending his free time with his family and friends.

However, the couple divorced, and Cowan e-united with Abplanalp whom he was dating before marrying Stephanie. Cowan and Gregory are also proud to be parents of their 3 adopted children.

Cowan and his ex-wife, Stephanie Swain Martinsen had a son called, Wesley who lost his life in 2006. Wesley Cowan lost his life after he fell from a horizontal set of monkey bars. After Wesley died, Reed started the Wesley Smiles Coalition which mainly focuses on raising money and building schools in Africa. In 2007, Cowan made a documentary called “The Other Side of the Lens” which was about his experiences after the death of his son as well as the emotions that he and his family went through for the loss of Wesley.
