Burton serves at WBZ News as the general assignment reporter. He came to the stations as part of the CBS News Growth Program and from WLNE-TV in Providence, where he had been a general assignment reporter since the spring of 2003. Burton, a real local reporter, was born and raised in Framingham, MA, alongside his brother Steve Burton. He graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and a Master’s in Journalism. Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary awarded Burton a second Master’s degree as well as a Doctorate in Theology.
Burton had a good athletic career before becoming a journalist. He was an ALL-Big Ten punter at Northwestern from 1994 to 1997, participating in two Big Ten Championships and appearing in the 1996 Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA, and the 1997 Citrus Bowl in Orlando, FL. Burton also played for the Seattle Seahawks in the National Football League.
Burton is an associate pastor at Tremont Temple Baptist Church in addition to his profession and studies. Burton is also the director of the Ron Burton Training Village, a youth sports camp founded in 1985 by his father, Ron Burton. Burton teaches children aged 11 to 18 how to excel in life both on and off the field through the medium of sports.
