In the year 2013, Oppmann tracked the movements of a fugitive couple that kidnapped their kids in the state of Florida. While tracking, he found the Hakken family in Cuba after having cruised to Havana during a custody dispute. The couple was subsequently returned to the United States by the officials of Cuba. Oppmann spent a couple of weeks providing live coverage from the hidden site where hopeless efforts were underway to rescue 33 trapped miners in Chile, in the year 2010.
