Patrick Bigbie Profile
Patrick Bigbie is an American Emmy Award-winning Meteorologist currently working for WDAM-TV. You can find his weather forecasts on WDAM 7 News.
Bigbie’s fascination with weather dates back to the day he was born. He used to watch The Weather Channel more than cartoons when he was a kid. It seemed as the weather came naturally to him.
Growing up, Bigbie took advantage of every opportunity he had to pursue a career as a meteorologist. He became the youngest Weather Watcher for WSFA in Montgomery, Alabama, when he was 13 years old. As a result, he was able to make friends with and learn from some of the industry’s greatest meteorologists. Bigbie became an advanced SkyWarn Spotter before completing high school and will chase anything from tornadoes to blizzards to hurricanes if given the chance.
Bigbie is a proud alumnus of the University of South Alabama. He graduated from the university with a Bachelor of Science(B.S.) in Meteorology, with a focus in Broadcast, in the year 2015. During his stint at the university, he was the Chief Meteorologist for a student-run, daily weathercast for the school, “AtmosCenter.” Also, he was the weather forecaster for the university’s television, radio station, and newspaper. In addition, he worked as an intern for an NBC-affiliated television station in Montgomery, Alabama, WSFA-TV.
Bigbie became famous after a tornado ripped across the Pine Belt in January 2017. When the storm knocked out the station’s audio, Bigbie grabbed a piece of paper and a Sharpie and scribbled, “No Sound Tornado on the Ground in Petal,” putting it up in front of the camera to warn viewers of the risk. He has also received Best of the Pine Belt awards for “Best Local TV Personality” on several occasions.
