Mehlhaf serves at KGW as the news reporter and anchor. To co-anchor KGW News at Sunrise, Mehlhaf gets up bright and early. Just in case, the alarm goes off at 2 a.m. and again at 2:10 a.m. She enjoys being able to show both sides of her personality on the Sunrise show: serious, heartfelt, and silly, as well as engaging with viewers in our live, unscripted, online streaming show, Sunrise +Extra, which she hosts. Nina also hosts a regular webcast called What’s Happening on our Social Media Accounts, which she writes and creates.
As a child, she used to watch KGW reporters on freeway overpasses and Sylvan Hill, hoping for a snow day, and it gave her the itch to cover the news. She enjoys trying new foods and restaurants in our wonderful city. On weekends, she loves cooking, going for leisurely bike rides (nothing too strenuous), and finding new places to take her daughter. You’ll never catch her in the act of fleeing. Nina was the main anchor of KTVZ NewsChannel 21 in beautiful Bend, Oregon, before heading to Portland. In 2008 and 2011, she received awards from the Oregon Association of Broadcasters for Best Breaking News Coverage.
She’s also been recognized by Oregon Press Women for her reporting. She was also named Best TV Personality by the Source Weekly newspaper and Central Oregon Magazine. She worked as a reporter and anchor at KTXL Fox40 in Sacramento, California, prior to moving to Bend. She reported a lot of national news stories there. She was often sent to cover the record snowfall in the Sierra because of her heritage as an Oregonian and her stockpile of outdoor-ready apparel.
