Some of these awards include 2 News Emmy Awards for “The Fall of Raqqa” in the year 2018; and the David Kaplan Award from the Overseas Press Club for covering the fall of ISIS in the year 2018. Also, 3 Peabody Awards, one for 2018 CNN’s coverage of the fall of ISIS in Syria and Iraq, the other one for the network’s coverage in Syria in 2012, and the last one for the 2016 ISIS report. Walsh has also worked as a scriptwriter in Afghanistan and Syria and for that, he earned an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in the year 2013. 

Walsh provided live coverage from inside Venezuela undercover in the year 2019 as its crisis unfolded. He conducted an interview with Javad Zarif (foreign minister) in Iran. Also, he provided a live report from Syria on a series of stories on the shelved United States withdrawal and covered the Turkish incursion into Syria’s Kurdish-held areas. Walsh also provided live coverage from the Amazon rainforest as it was experiencing its worst fires in not more than 10 years.

Walsh began as CNN’s Correspondent based in Kabul, Afghanistan. In the year 2012, he switched to Beirut, Lebanon-based correspondent, where he provided coverage from inside Syria in the midst of its civil war, following the rise of ISIS to their spread in Afghanistan and Libya. He also followed the fall of ISIS in Mosul after more than 3 years, as well as their final collapse in Raqqa in late 2017.
