Also, he provided a live report from Syria on a series of stories on the shelved United States withdrawal and covered the Turkish incursion into Syria’s Kurdish-held areas. Walsh also provided live coverage from the Amazon rainforest as it was experiencing its worst fires in not more than 10 years.
Walsh began as CNN’s Correspondent based in Kabul, Afghanistan. In the year 2012, he switched to Beirut, Lebanon-based correspondent, where he provided coverage from inside Syria in the midst of its civil war, following the rise of ISIS to their spread in Afghanistan and Libya. He also followed the fall of ISIS in Mosul after more than 3 years, as well as their final collapse in Raqqa in late 2017.
Walsh has reported on the Russian-backed invasion of Ukraine, as well as the expansion of the fight into Donetsk. Later on, after joining CNN, Walsh became CNN’s 1st correspondent providing live coverage of Osama Bin Laden’s death from Abbottabad. Covering Osama’s death, he got an exclusive video from inside the compound of the leader of al-Qaeda and reported that a courier’s cell phone signal had led the troops of America there.
Before Walsh joined CNN, he worked as a foreign affairs correspondent for the UK’s Channel 4 News in Asia.
