Monica Pearson Breast Cancer
When Pearson was 50 years old (in the year 1997), she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was handling her cancer journey much like her career: doing research, generously sharing her story with others, always being positive, and asking questions.
Her diagnosis was DCIS or Ductal Carcinoma in Situ. She was so conscience when she did breast self-exams since she was at the age of 35. She quickly picked up on what the medical professionals defined as a calcium deposit. The biopsy made a report that the cancer was not big, it was very small, at a very early stage, and had not spread.
Pearson did her research extensively and partnered with her oncologist in deciding to forego radiation and chemotherapy after surgery. She says she received great support along the way from her girl group, who had all had breast cancer with their friend, and revived the “Boob Party”.
