Dean serves as an anchor and reporter for NBC7 San Diego, anchoring NBC 7’s weekday newscasts at 4 and 5 and delivering NBC7’s “Inspiring San Diego” news reports. She won her first Emmy in 2006 for her report on the Carmel Valley migrant worker camps. She was also nominated for an Emmy for her coverage of the 2007 San Diego Firestorms and the 2016 riots at the Donald Trump Rally in downtown San Diego.

Monica is a co-founder of the KNSD Academy, an experiential learning program at NBC 7 and Telemundo20 that introduces high school students to careers in television news. Dean has lived and worked all over the world, but she has always considered California to be her home. Monica was raised in San Diego as the daughter of a Navy Captain and a local dental hygienist.
She received her bachelor’s degree in English from UCLA and her master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in Chicago. Monica’s first job in television news was behind the scenes at KTTV FOX-11 News in Los Angeles, California. She began her broadcast career as the Washington D.C. political correspondent for WCAX, the CBS affiliate in Burlington, Vermont.
Dean worked as a television health reporter for an eight-station newsgroup that spanned the United States while in Washington, D.C. Monica joined NBC7 San Diego after more than two years as an anchor/reporter at the CBS/FOX affiliates in Bakersfield, CA. Monica was honored by the Associated Press and the Kern Press Club for her work in Bakersfield. She also enjoys being a mother and is very involved in her children’s lives.
