Jacob began his journalism career while in high school in Rapid City, South Dakota. While in high school, he produced a 30-minute documentary on teenage drinking and driving after several of his classmates were tragically killed in a drunk driving accident and it raised his passion for journalism. He has an experience of over 40 years in the journalism industry.
Throughout his career, he has covered major stories in several cities heading up newsrooms. Prior to joining the ABC15 news team, he worked at KNXV in Phoenix, Arizona. While there, he served the station as a news director for two years. Before that, he worked in Nashville, TN at WSMV as a News Director. In addition to that, he worked in Washington, D.C., and Columbus, OH.
Jacob has covered the Nashville Christmas morning bombing which heavily damaged several downtown blocks, the Congressional softball game shooting, and also the D.C. inauguration riots among other stories. During his working time in Phoenix, he directed the continuous coverage of what was one of the worst wildfires in Arizona history — the Rodeo-Chediski Fire. Jacob continues his intense drive to cover local news with balanced journalism that demands truth. He survived the Nashville tornado which was a little too close for comfort as he took cover in the bathroom while the tornado heavily damaged his neighborhood.
During his leisure time, he enjoys hanging with his two rescue dogs Murphy and Macy, traveling, as well as home renovation. Jacob is a foodie. He is thrilled to experience all the new restaurants. His Nashville garage was transformed into a movie set for an on-demand CBS series titled “Tell Me a Story.”
