Michael Timothy Shildt is an American baseball coach for the San Diego Padres. Prior to coaching for the San Diego Padres, he was a coach at St. Louis Cardinals minor league system from 2017 to 2021.

Prior to his coaching career, he was a professional baseball player since he was in high school and college.

After years of playing as a baseball player, he moved on to work as a coach at West Charlotte High School and assisted the team in winning for the first time in 20 years. He left high school and joined UNC Charlotte where he worked as an assistant baseball coach for the Charlotte 49 years baseball team for about five years. In addition to this, he was also the owner of a baseball training facility based in North Carolina.

The Cardinals advanced to the National League Championship Series in 2019 and for that, he has been tagged NL Manager of the Year. However, the St. Louis Cardinals minor league lost in the 2020 and 2021 seasons at the National League Wild Card Game. On October 14, 2021, Shildt was dismissed.

Shildt started his Major League Baseball career working as an associate scout with the league for three seasons. He, later on, moved on to serve as the area scout for South Carolina, Virginia, and North Carolina. He then started his minor league on a recommendation from John Mozeliak who is a Cardinals general manager.

For this league, he had to go to New York alongside the team for the Single-A affiliate in the New York–Penn League. In 2004 and 2005, he worked as a part-time coach before he was given a raise in 2006 as a full-time coach. During the 2008 season, he became the hitting coach for the Johnson City Cardinals. In 2009, Shildt was given a raise and started serving as the manager of Johnson City where he finished with a 37–30 record.

Johnson City posted a 42–24 win–loss record in the second season and won the Appalachian League championship. Scout.com named him St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Manager of the Year after Johnson City won the league. Shildt then joined St. Louis Cardinals roster after Johnson City’s season ended. He also received the George Kissell Award and the Appalachian League Manager of the Year award from the St. Louis Cardinals organization.
