Mike Bettes is an American Meteorologist/Storm Chaser working for The Weather Channel in Atlanta, Georgia serving the station as an On-Camera Meteorologist since December 2003. Prior to this, he was working for WLOS-TV serving the station as a Chief Meteorologist. There, he worked between November 2000 and November 2003.

Bettes attended local schools when he was growing up. Later on, he went on to join Ohio State University (OSU) where he studied between 1990 and 1995. There, he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology.

Bettes works for The Weather Channel where he serves the station as an On-Camera Meteorologist. Asides from this, he was also serving as a co-host for AMHQ: America’s Morning Headquarters. In addition to this, he also co-hosts Weather Underground TV. In addition to this, he had been an on-camera Meteorologist for TWC from the year 2003. Asides from this, he is an occasional fill-in weather anchor on The Today Show.

In addition to this, he was also hosting Abrams and Bettes Beyond the Forecast between 2006 and 2009. He also worked for Your Weather Today between 2009 and 2012. The show was relaunched as Morning Rush and hosted the show into 2014. Later on, the program was relaunched in March of the same year as America’s Morning Headquarters.

Asides from this, he was also hosting Wake Up With AI between 2009 and 2014. Asides from this, he was a field reporter for The Weather Channel and is the lead field meteorologist for The Great Tornado Hunt. This is an annual show which summarizes the nation’s tornado seasons.

In addition to this, he also accompanied scientists for TWC coverage of VORTEX2. Asides from this, he was also reporting live from Hurricane Sandy, and Hurricane Katrina among other tropical cyclones as well as floods and winter storms.

Asides from this, he was caught in the EF3 which was previously named EF5 tornado on the 31st of May 2013 in El Reno, Oklahoma, and survived where eight people died after that day. After about a year, together with his crew, they returned to the Great Plains to forecast and report severe weather as part of the 2014 Tornado Track.

She states that she was one of several storm chasers struck by an EF3 tornado in El Reno, Oklahoma back in 2013. Additionally, the storm rolled and tossed his SUV approximately 200 yards(180 Meters) into a field. The roof collapsed and his crew suffered major injuries: driver Austin Anderson broke several bones.

Later on, they were found by Reed Timmer and his SRV Dominator team, who were storm chasing for Oklahoma City’s KFOR-TV. This was when they spotted Bettes’ wrecked SUV and saw The Weather Channel markings on it. Asides from this, they stopped to assist Oklahoma Highway Patrol and other first responders but had to leave to escape the back end of the storm.

During the other incident, the same tornado killed TWISTEX storm chaser, Tim Samaras, his son Paul, and colleague Carl Young of South Lake Tahoe, California. The storm chaser, Dan Robinson of St. Louis, Missouri escaped the tornado with a few injuries. Additionally, he was a few hundred yards ahead of the TIWISTEX crew.

Later on, after local resident Richard Charles Henderson was killed in the same area as the TWISTEX crew after deciding to chase the storm. She had sent a picture of the twister to a friend using his cell phone just before the storm struck him.

A University of Oklahoma student named Billy Prater and his father, together with a friend sought after refuge under an overpass when the storm changed direction. This action is strongly discouraged in these situations. The group was lucky to survive the ordeal.
