Mika Emilie Leonia Brzezinski is an American journalist, talk show host, liberal political commentator, and author working for MSNBC serving as a host. She initially joined MSNBC on January 26, 2007.

Brzezinski attended the Madeira School. Soon after, she attended Georgetown University for a period of two years prior to transferring to Williams College, where she graduated attaining her Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1989.

Brzezinski is the host of MSNBC’s weekday morning broadcast show Morning Joe. Her journalism career started as an assistant at ABC’s World News This Morning in 1990. After one year, she moved to Tribune-owned Fox affiliate WTIC-TV/WTIC-DT in Hartford, Connecticut. While at WTIC-TV/WTIC-DT, she advanced from assignment and features editor to general assignments reporter. She left the station and soon after joined CBS affiliate WFSB-TV/WFSB-DT in Hartford in 1992.

While there, she quickly advanced through the ranks to become its weekday morning anchor in 1995. Brzezinski left the station in 1997 to join CBS News, where she served as a correspondent and as an anchor for the overnight Up to the Minute news program. She started a short hiatus from CBS News in 2001, where she worked for MSNBC’s rival on the weekday afternoon show, HomePage, together with co-anchors Gina Gaston and Ashleigh Banfield.

Brzezinski then joined MSNBC in 2007 and started off by doing the evening Up To The Minute news updates. Soon after, she advanced and worked primetime newsbreaks during the week.  She also filed occasional reports for NBC Nightly News and appeared as an occasional anchor on Weekend Today. After a while, she resigned from both shows prior to the renewal option she said when Joe selected her to co-host Morning Joe.

Mika’s family moved to McLean, Virginia, which is near Washington, D.C., in late 1976. This was after her father was named National Security Advisor by newly elected President Jimmy Carter. Unfortunately, Zbigniew died on May 26, 2017, at the age of 89 and the reasons behind his death are still unknown to the public.
