Holmes serves at CNN as a news anchor and correspondent. He anchors on CNN Newsroom from Friday through Monday from 12 AM to 3.30 AM. Joining CNN, he was the first Australian anchor for the network. He has done extensive reports from almost all states around the globe. From the Mexico-Guatemala border, he covered the Central American migrant crisis. Also, he covered the deaths of a man and his young daughter due to drowning after trying to cross into the U.S. in El Salvador. The man and his daughter’s bodies were found together on the banks of the Rio Grande. Moreover, Holmes has reported on the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, e Israeli elections, and the protests on the Gaza-Israel border.

Holmes has covered the Iraq war since the start, making over a dozen trips there, reporting on all aspects of the war such as the rebellion and occupation to the trial and Saddam Hussein’s execution. Holmes survived an ambush on a 2-vehicle CNN convoy in January 2004. In the ambush, 2 CNN staff members lost their lives and 1 just got injured.
