Meredith Louise Vieira is an American television personality and broadcast journalist working for ABC News serving as a co-anchor of the morning news and talk program by the name of TODAY. She is also the host of the game show which is known as Who Wants to be a millionaire.

Soon after, she made her way into the newsroom at WCBS-TV in New York City where she served as an investigative reporter from 1979 to 1982.

Vieira hit the headlines as a CBS journalist based in Chicago from 1982 to 1984. Later on, she started her new role serving as a correspondent for nationwide news-magazine shows like West 57th from 1985 to 1989 as well as Minutes from 1989 to 1991. The last task she did while at CBS was as a  co-anchor of the morning news. She left the station for ABC and was the news-magazine show Turning Point regular correspondent from 1994 to 1999. She also spent some time serving as the host of the Lifetime Network’s show Intimate Portrait. Intimate Portrait debuted on January 3, 1995, and was on till August 28, 2004.

Vieira joined forces with 60 Minutes in 1989, after she had given birth to her first child. The executive producer of 60 Minutes, Don Hewitt permitted her to be working part-time for two seasons so that she could take care of her newborn child. After the two seasons, she was back to working full time but two years later, she got pregnant again and requested to continue with the part-time arrangement.

Hewitt did not agree with the request and ended up firing her and making a decision to hire another person who is willing to work full-time. Her being fired hit the headlines and caused raucous and mixed reactions all over the states. She refused to work for ABC’s Good Morning America as well as co-host CBS’s The Early Show during the mid-1990s because her children were still too young.
