Umeh serves at Fox 5 DC as the co-anchor for Fox News Morning 4:25 am-6 am, and Good Day DC 9 am-11 am. Maureen recalls watching the television as a kid growing up in Chicago and seeing one of her favorite reporters in town hall battling with the little man. She’s proud to note that she’s accomplished the dream of being a reporter, and even more proud to know that some of her stories have helped make a difference.
Her TV career began in Champaign, Illinois, several moons ago. She was fortunate enough to secure a full-time job reporting at WCIA-TV right after graduating from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. She was trying too hard to get the job. She had a radio chat show as well as a DJ. She wrote for the university press and then worked for a TV station.
Her next stop was Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina, where she worked as one of the lead anchors for late-night newscasts on WSPA-TV. She had such a great time and she treasured her memories. She was honored with a number of awards for her service. These include the Emmy Award for Outstanding Investigative Series and Best Newscast.
She has also been recognized by several other groups, including the South Carolina Broadcasting and Arts Association, the Illinois Broadcasting Association, and the NAACP. She served as Chairwoman of the Upstate Leadership Board of the American Cancer Society and has partnered with non-profit groups such as Big Brothers, Big Sisters, and Mathew Home, an association for impoverished children.
