In 1984, he graduated from Robert Service High School. As a college football prospect growing up in Alaska, Schlereth received little attention; the only current FBS schools to offer him scholarships were Idaho and Hawaii. Dennis Erickson, head coach at the University of Idaho, extended him a scholarship offer. Schlereth was inducted into the Vandal Athletics Hall of Fame at the University of Idaho in 2008.

Schlereth, a former NFL Pro Bowler, worked as an ESPN studio analyst for 16 years before joining FOX, in addition to various radio hosting duties. He continues to co-host “Schlereth and Evans” on Denver’s 104.3 FM The Fan (Wednesdays 6:00-9:00 AM MT) with Mike Evans, as well as “The Stinkin’ Good Podcast with Mark Schlereth.”
Schlereth, nicknamed “Stink,” was drafted by Washington in the 10th round of the 1989 NFL Draft and played as a guard for the Redskins for 12 years before retiring in 2001. He played six seasons with the Washington Redskins (1989-1994) and six seasons with the Denver Broncos (1995-2000).
Schlereth won three Super Bowls and was named to the Pro Bowl in 1991 and 1998. Schlereth was forced to retire from the NFL in April 2001 due to a series of injuries. Throughout his career, he had 29 surgical procedures, 20 of which were on his knees, 15 of which were on the left. Schlereth landed a job as an analyst with ESPN shortly after announcing his retirement at the age of 35.
Before joining FOX Sports in 2017, Schlereth was a regular contributor to ESPN studio shows “SportsCenter” and “NFL Live,” as well as a guest host on “Mike & Mike in the Morning” and “Jim Rome is Burning.” Schlereth and fellow former Broncos lineman David “Doc” Diaz-Infante co-hosted the afternoon sports talk radio show “Drivetime Sports” on Denver’s 760 AM The Zone.
